Taking precautions is the best way to prevent issues which may take more time troubleshooting or making service calls. See most common mistakes below.
Common Mistake |
Solution |
Poor Module Placement |
Placing the Drone device under metal, in the engine bay, or deep inside the dash causing weak or no GPS signal. |
Mount device with a clear view of the sky with no metal directly above the device. Ideal mounting X2MAX is directly under the top of dashboard. |
Poor preparation for securing or mounting the device causing rattling, falling modules. |
Use automotive approved double-sided tape, Velcro, or cable ties to ensure the device is securely mounted and not in obstruction of moving parts. |
Poor Connections / Wiring |
Running wires near hinges, pedals, HVAC, or across high heat areas such as engine / firewall areas leading to pinching, melting, or electrical shorts. |
Route wiring along existing harnesses. Use loom, cable ties, grommets to avoid any areas that may cause damage to added wiring. |
Connecting to improper circuits in the vehicle causing electrical issue, excessive battery draw, or warning lights on dashboard. |
Use a digital multi-meter to confirm your connection points in the vehicle. Refer to your MyFirstech account for wiring information. |
Non-Functioning Device |
Releasing the vehicle before activating device. |
Run the device through the DroneMobile activation portal on the MyFirstech website or App to confirm operation before releasing to the customer. |
OBD Plug Not fully seated or connected. |
Make sure to securely connect the OBD T-Harness into the vehicles OBD Diagnostic Port. If unable to get a secure connection, hardwiring the device may be required. |
